Special Census 2008
The City of White House completed its most recent special census project in the spring of 2008. The updated census number submitted to the State of Tennessee for verification was 9,891.This is an additional 1,361 residents since the 2005 special census, or an increase of over 13%. A total of 3,587 households were contacted. A great response was seen as residents mailed in census cards, used the Wastewater drop box, emailed the information, left it on the dedicated voicemail lines, or provided it to the Official Census Takers. We had an overall participation rate of over 99% of households.

The additional residents in the special census count above the 2008 census population will result in an increase in funding from the State of Tennessee known as State Shared Revenue. These funds may be used for street paving, parks improvements and enhancements for our Police and Fire Departments.
Census History
The first official census for the City was the 1980 U.S. Census at a population of 2,254. In the 1990 U.S. Census, White House’s population was 2,987. Two special censuses were conducted in the mid-1990s. The first, in 1994, placed the City’s population at 4,260 and the next in 1997 counted the City’s 5,594 citizens. The City’s population listed in the 2000 U.S. Census was placed at 7,220. A special census was conducted in 2005 and brought the City’s population to 8,530 residents. The most recent special census was conducted in 2008 and increased the City's population to 9,891 residents.
